Although these are the usual correspondances, you can chose to make your own correspondances to whatever feels right for you.
Also, if you do not own an Athame or a Wand, you can substitute
either tool, or if you have neither of these, your index finger makes a
perfect "Wand", just point it as you would the Athame or Wand.
For my private rituals, I tend to be less formal, and go outside with a white candle, cast a quick circle in my mind, and just meditate and sing.... basically.
For my coven, I do a "proper" ritual....
I mark out the circle and set everything up.. then I get the people who will be in the circle to place any offerings, tools or spell notes they will need in their places within the circle...
then I get them to all place their hands in a bowl of salt water to cleanse all the negative junk they have accumulated from the day... (which I got from a ritual I attended of Violet's <g>) I then smudge them, and the go one by one into the circle, into their places.
I then cast the circle... and sometimes I get them to walk around tracing it with me. Then I have a coven member for each Element (including Spirit) (done by working out their star signs or attributes) and they invoke the elements, and The acting High Priest (I don't have a specific one... it is whoever isn't an Element or they take it in turns) invokes the Goddess, and I invoke the God.
Then I ask everyone to place an offering into a bowl at each Elemental quarter.. and ask them for blessings in a particular part of their life. Then I ask them to do the same for the Goddess and God. Then if we are doing a full moon circle, I will lead them in a group drawing down the moon, or if it is a Sabbat - a simple Sabbat ritual...
then if anyone has any particular spells they would like to do, we do those together.. we then hold hands while sitting on the floor and rock side to side, while chanting... getting faster and faster, and louder and louder.. then when we have raised the energy, I lift my hands to the sky, and that signals everyone to do the same, and send the energy into the universe to go out and affect what we want it to.....
then we consecrate any new tools people have...then we have cakes and ale (Usually chokky bikkies and non-alcoholic wine) we then usually have a bit of a chat while we eat.. and then we farewell the Goddess, God, and the Elements.. and close the circle
:)
That's what I do....very relaxed
and laid back....and it seems to work well...
There are many ways..... I personally do it this way:
I place the item on the pentacle, and point my Athame to the item (you can use a finger if you don't have the Athame/wand consecrated yet) and I say: (the * are for notes - see below):
"I consecrate thee, O' creature
of ......(*)
For the Element of .......
(**)
May you serve me well, and
harm none!
In the names of the Goddess
and God, (***)
and by the powers of Earth
(****)
Air (*****)
Fire (******)
and Water (*******)
Thou art consecrated!"
* whatever the item is
made from, wood, steel etc.)
** each tool has a corresponding
element:
Pentacle = Earth
Chalice = Water
Censer = Air
Athame = Fire (some people say Air)
Wand = Air (some people say Fire)
*** I hold the item
to the Goddess candle, then to the God one
**** I sprinkle salt
on it
***** I pass it through
the incense smoke
****** I pass it (quickly)
through the candle flame
******* I sprinkle water
on it

Stand where you want the center of your circle to be and visualize a protective bubble around you using any method to form the bubble that you wish. As you visualize it, chant this:
I form a magick circle
to protect me in this place,
Bring in the forces that are
best for my work
and may no evil show its face,
From this working that I do
may no evil this place know,
The circle is cast and sealed,
As I will it, let it be so.
